Stiff Neck: A Poem

August 9, 2022 Sarah Hinlicky Wilson

Doc,
please look.
My neck
is stuck.
It goes this far,
no more.
I hear you,
but it’s not,
no, it is not a metaphor.

Rev,
please pray.
My neck
is tight.
I’d turn it but
it’s sore.
You say so,
but it’s not,
no, it is not a metaphor.

God,
please help.
My neck
is stiff.
We’ve been through this
before.
It isn’t, musn’t, can
not be
some lousy metaphor.
